I chose this book not only due to the lacking Anthropology section Bookman's had to offer, but because on face value and after skimming through the book, it touched on many beliefs and interests I have. The Shuar have lived among nature for centuries, and have lived in balance, preserving the resources of the forest, using only what they need. This is a lesson that all developed countries need to learn, how to live a comfortable life while also not depleting the help Earth has to offer us. The religious beliefs the Shuar have would most closely mirror a Hindu or Buddhist religion due to their belief in universal oneness and reincarnation, which they call "shapeshifting ". I also have always has a strong interest with the Amazon Rain Forest and all the life that thrives there. Beginning the book I knew that I could learn many things from the Shuar and the wisdom they have acquired in the deep jungle. .
