Emotional Intelligence and Educating Youth


            
             The question that this article answers is whether or not teaching emotional intelligence should be a part of school curriculum. The problem that the article aimed to draw attention to is that emotional intelligence is not currently integrated into existing education systems in the United States. The article points to the fact that a person's emotional well-being must be considered when examining their success and how healthy emotional development is an important part of human maturity. With that being said, a person's emotional intelligence is in fact important and is not currently being addressed within educational platforms. As a result, students may not be fully equipped to be a competing figure in the job market. The problem of not integrating this knowledge into curriculums is not easily addressed because of the controversy surrounding the idea of emotional intelligence. This problem is complex because of the lack of quantitative and measurable data associated with emotional intelligence. .
             Interdisciplinary Evaluation.
             This article did have an interdisciplinary approach in reaching the solution of incorporating emotional intelligence into schools. The Augsburg textbook points out that interdisciplinarity explores the emerging relations among things. The primary reason that this article offers an interdisciplinary solution is because it aims to explore the emerging relations regarding emotional intelligence and life success. An interdisciplinary approach towards solving a problem also includes representing multiple areas of knowledge and using information from each area in order to reach a solution. In this article the author delved into science and education in order to create an interdisciplinary solution of whether or not emotional intelligence should be a part of education systems. .
             Summary of Article .
             In the article "Emotional Intelligences: A Missing Link in Educating Our Youth,"" the authors, Jacob Shirley W, Wadlington Elizabeth and Enloe Alicia discuss the necessary involvement of emotional intelligence into school curriculums.
