Maestro Enrico Cecchetti

Enrico, on the other hand, learned how to break away from the traditional form. He was able to captivate his audience by uniquely creating his own repertoire of expressive movements intertwined with his technical dance skills.  Cecchetti is one of the first to crossover between categories, ergo being a mime and pure dancer simultaneously (Poesio 234). Mime roles such as "Showman," in Petrouchka, "Astrologer" in The Firebird, and Pantalon" in Le Carnival, etc. were created specifically for Cecchetti. His career spanned across more than thirty years in which he performed in many countries including the US, England, Denmark, Norway, Germany, and Russia.
During his tour of Europe at age twenty, Cecchetti made a successful debut on the stage of La Scala in Milan, Italy.  He received many positive reviews on his performance of batterie, leaps, and precise execution of approximately thirty-two pirouettes á la seconde (Carpenter). This outstanding performance jumpstarted Cecchetti's career, and was hired Premier Danseur of the Imperial Russian Ballet at the Maryinski Theater in St. Petersburg, and assistant ballet master to Marius Petipa in 1887 where he created and performed the virtuoso role of the Bluebird and the mime role of Carabosse in Petipa's Sleeping Beauty in 1890. .
According to Helena Hammond, Sleeping Beauty occupies an unparalleled position within British Ballet History. It served as a signature work of the national Royal Ballet Company. The character of Carabosse in Sleeping Beauty is one of the most famous mime roles created by Cecchetti. He recreated the Carabosse and made his last performance of this role in The Sleeping Princess, Diaghilev's Ballets Russes' version of Sleeping Beauty, in 1922. (Hammond 11).  .
Cecchetti staged numerous events such as ballets, balls, quadrilles, and cotillions for the court of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia during his term at the Imperial Ballet in St.
