These two stories "The House on Mango Street" and "Girl" are two stories that have great significance to each other even though both stories are different. They are similar in the sense that both protagonists are talking about life in general. They talk about how they want to and should live life. "The House on Mango Street" talks about how they lived there lives due to certain situations. "Girl" on the other hand displays a different approach on life and the way life is supposed to be lived, but you can still see their similarities.
The house on Mango Street displays an array of troubles in a home which they are fortunate to live in, but are looking to a better future. In "Girl" you see a similarity in that mother is giving her daughter lessons in life, so she can have a better future. As I was reading this story I found it interesting that both protagonists have there similarities in the way life is going to be lived. We could see that in "Girl" the mother starts to tell her daughter "always eat your food in such a way that it won't turn someone else's stomach" which is a metaphor on how live should be lived. "Girl" is a story that can be interpreted as good or bad. Good and bad in the sense that life is hard, but by following certain rules in life she could live a promising future, if interpreted the in the right way. In the house on mango street we see that the protagonists parents talks about a good life, the way they are going to live their lives as opposed to how they live their lives now. "They always told us that one day we would move into a house, a real house that would be ours for always so we wouldn't have to move each year" here we see that the protagonists parents displays their promising future. A future that one could only dream of, until it comes true.

Even though the house on Mango Street and "Girl" has significance amongst each other we can still see their differences.
