Three Great Philosophers of Ancient Greece


All of his dialogues have more than one speaker. He didn't show much interest in the Democracy. One of his best work was known as, The Republic which demonstrates his idealism, and its political consequences. Plato advocated in public education. He believed that education in astronomy and mathematics was important and a way to sharpen their minds. He said, exercising the mind intensively increases the ability to think more excessively. .
             Aristotle (384-322 BC), also a Greek Philosopher, was a student of Plato and a tutor of Alexander the Great. He was a student of Academy, and then later founded his own school known as Lyceum. Most of his writings were about politics, poetry, ethics, botany, physics, metaphysics, rhetoric, astronomy, zoology, logic and psychology. He believed that everything changes and grows. Aristotle believed in logical thinking. In biology, he was able to identify names of animals and plants with their scientific names. Even to this day, in the science world, we use different names for species. In his study of physiology he believed that everyone has their own free will. Certain thing human nature does is voluntarily done by each person. He also contributed politics. Aristotle understood that Politian's had their own ethics to follow and give what is best to the city-states. He wrote an essay, Politics, which was about the behavior of people towards their city-states, ethics, theory of justice and the rule of law etc. Aristotle was indeed the developer of the processes of scientific observation and experimental approach with materials. .
             There were three massive playwrights that survived, Aeschylus (525-456BC), Sophocles (ca. 495-406BC), and Euripides (ca. 485-406BC). One of Aeschylus' works was, The Oresteia (485BC.), which was a trilogy. The three plays were Agamemnon, The Choephori, and The Eumenides. The theme of the plays was about justice. He also introduced the second character to the stage.
