Adopting a Dog

People who love animals, canines in particular, know how difficult it can be to find the one who will become the perfect match for you; a great companion. There are many ways to adopt a dog and some are more expensive than others. Using the internet to find a canine friend can be a frustrating and confusing ordeal, considering the amount of "dog lovers" scanning the net, looking for others to warn against the "selfishness" of purchasing a dog from a breeder rather than adopting one from a local animal shelter. They often break it down into one simple catch-phrase: "adopt, don't shop." .
Its true that those sad little shelter dogs that tug at our hearts need loving homes, and its a good thing that there are people out there who advocate for them. Doing one's best to protect a homeless dog from being euthanized is a great, if not heroic, cause. ere are a great number of people who do take shelters into consideration when looking for a pet. Sometimes a shelter dog is perfect for a person or a family, sometimes not. However, despite how noble it may seem to take home a dog that was picked up off the streets and could potentially die at the end of the week, there is no reason for any one person to do all in their power to force any other person to focus solely on taking all the sad, victimized dogs out of the shelter for good. When relying solely on the mantra "adopt, don't shop," one is admitting to ignoring all other dogs outside of shelters. Whether such advocates choose to believe it or not, all dogs need a good home.
When it comes to an animal needing a healthy home, no other dog fits the bill than the ones the "adopt, don't shop" advocates like to speak out against. They think that these words will put a stop to "backyard breeders" and the sick puppies they breed and sell before they are truly ready for pure profit and nothing else. These ways range from just another amateur with a dirty home and bad intentions to greater organizations that run puppy mills among other cruel acts.
