Altruism and the Sacrifice of Giving

He was more concerned for the safety and security of the future generation than his personal life. Hence, his actions prove that altruism can help better a person along with others and should be an example to the rest of us.
Individuals commit acts of altruism for various reasons such as fair outcomes in behavior, reputation, and altruistic punishment. For instance, when a person sees another individual suffering or in need he/she may want to help them out to make their selves feel better in addition to seeing the person helped reaction. Another reason for assisting would be to uphold their reputation as being a nice person. Last but not least, the individual may not feel comfortable without helping another in their conscience. If people who were raised on the morals of altruism never helped, they would feel convicted within themselves. .
In the book, "Altruism: An Accident of Nature?", the author contends that humans and animals only carry out acts of altruism because they have a hidden agenda (Dingfelder, 44). In particular, we commit acts of kindness because we want good things to happen to us in return but this is not always true. This article also states that animals carry out acts to help their species whereas humans would rather commit acts of altruism to their kin than anybody else. However, some individuals would rather help a complete stranger than family member due to either family issues or simply the more pleasure that will come out of the act. .
In "The Negative Side to Altruism," Jason Summers insists that altruism leads to idleness. However, this can't be so considering that every individual doesn't practice altruism and most people would either accept something or deny it for reasons of their own to make life easier. Practicing altruism always leads to an outcome whether a person regrets a decision or benefits from it greatly. Furthermore, the outcomes are based upon the morals behind the action taken.
