Organizations that do not evolve with the times will, most likely, fail. Netscape, Atari, and America Online are a few companies that did not incorporate organizational development and failed (Edelman, 2009). The current economic depression the world is facing is another example of how stagnation can cause a company to fail. The three largest automakers in the United States of America required government assistance in order to keep them in business. Chrysler, Ford and General Motors were all on the brink of collapse and required the U.S. government to intercede and save them from financial collapse. The reason these three automakers found themselves in such a precarious situation was due to stagnation. These organizations failed to change and evolve with customer trends and demands in particular with modern technological processing advancements and with customer demand for more fuel efficient vehicles (Huggins, 2008). Organizations that recognize a need to change recognize the need for organizational development. .
