Living Things: Design or Evolution?

Conye goes on and on about how so many features are wrong, impractical, and imperfect that there is no way an all-knowing designer would create such species. If there was a creator then why would they create subjects with flaws and weakness? A similar question can go for evolution. If evolution is survival of the fittest and if they adapt so well to their environments then why have they not gotten rid of the unnecessary features yet? Why haven't they evolved to be perfect? I believe this is because they are perfect how they are. Yes there may be a weakness here or there but this is the feature this species needs at the moment to live their life. The flounder is flat and rotates its eye because it feeds and protects itself better this way. They are bottom dwelling fish that camouflages in the ground to hide from predators and prey. The eye moves so that the fish can get use of both eyes. This isn't an imperfect feature, it is a design that lets this fish survive. Call it evolution or intelligent design, this fish does not have an imperfection either way. .
Coyne uses a lot of science to back up his arguments. This makes sense considering he is a Biology professor and that evolution is a scientific theory. However, in one instance his objective scientific mind turned off and his subjective and assuming mind turned on. He says, "if you wanted to design a flatfish, you wouldn't do it this way.""(82) He is referring to the odd procedure a flounder goes through to become a flatfish and that it is flat on its side not its stomach. This statement assumes that everyone would agree to this "bad design, the concept of intelligent design is wrong." He only thinks this cannot be intelligent design because in his mind it is unintelligent to have a fish designed one way just for it to change into an asymmetrical odd looking fish. He believes if intelligent design were true that the fish wouldn't be flat on its side but on its stomach like other flatfish.
