Advertising and the Marketing Overload

TIVO allows television viewers to record the shows that they want to watch and fast-forward through the commercials later. Television viewers also have new programs such as Netflix and HBOGO. These are programs that do not allow advertisements on their programs, and they allow viewers to watch all of their shows without commercials. .
Television advertising is not as effect as it was before these new programs, and therefore marketers are trying to find creative ways to bring the television advertisement to the consumers throughout their day. Marketers are putting advertisements on eggs, on billboards, doctor's offices, and bus signs. They are recently putting television advertisements in McDonalds, taxicabs, gas stations, and even urinals. This is only the beginning. There are marketing companies that now specialize on within entertainment advertisements, which is called product placement. Instead of making the advertisement a break from the entertainment, they are now making it apart of the entertainment. These companies advertise brands in movies, TV shows, and even video games. They have even found a way to place them in the background of sports games such as baseball. .
The problem with an overload of advertisements is that the viewers have to block out most advertisements because it is too much information to absorb. The goal of the marketer is to cut through the clutter without alienating the consumer (www.cbsnews.com). .
Consumers have access to ten times more information than they had before the Internet was available. Consumers have the ability to research about any product, service, and company. This allows them to be able to compare products and services of a company in contrast with their competition. The Internet also allows them to be able to learn more about the product or service's quality. In a matter of minutes they can learn about the products features. This normally comes along with reviews, which includes the product or service's advantages and disadvantages.
