The Statistical Futures of High School Dropouts


Unfortunately, this can lead to feelings like low self-esteem and not feeling wanted or loved, among other things I'm sure. They not only have themselves to take care of without a diploma but now they have a child, when they are a still child themselves. .
             It may be forced or a choice but sometimes for financial reasons students leave school.
             A study done by the US Department of Education found that a student starting at the age of 16 and going up who comes from families with lower incomes is about seven times more likely to dropout of high school than the same age range student who comes from higher to highest income families (Alliance). Sometimes parents really just cannot afford the fees and little things that go along with sending the student to school, so instead the student goes into the workforce world. Also there may be times where the parents are struggling financially or are not able to work at all due to a disability possibly so the student works to help support the family. Some students just may have no interest in academics and want to jump into making money full time, even though they don't realize at the time to secure a better future they really need a diploma; but some students just live in the present and take it day by day and don't look ahead to the future.
             Students deal with many challenges in life, some are at home and some are at school. Sometimes the challenges or problems that occur in the home effect the student at school or how much they pursue when they're at school. In a Dayton Daily News article written by Kelli Wynn it discusses the problems with lack of parental support and that 1 in 4 drop outs say that lack of support is the reason for their decision (Wynn). Many reasons why some parents are not supportive of their child at school. For some parents choosing to not be supportive is not always the case. In today's fast paced, expensive society it really takes both parents' incomes to support the family.
