Chris McCandless - Into the Wild

This often forces extroverts to become bored easily, and seek out more stimulation through excitement (Hindelang, 1969, p.24).
We first notice Chris's personality trait of extroversion when he gives away his savings account to charity. This is a noble and generous act for a twenty-two year old of Chris' socio-economic status. He displays a role of leadership by rejecting society's identity of capitalism and selfishness, and by donating his life savings. This single act gives him positive stimulation of excitement and self-fulfillment. By donating his savings to charity, Chris is taking the first step to finding his true-self, and to starting his life-altering adventure. He finds peace and harmony in his eccentric ways, and prides himself on being different than others. Chris continues to express the personality of an extrovert by the way he interacts with others along his journey. .
Meeting a couple who are travelers (Jan and Rainey); Chris is able to develop an intimate and social relationship with the pair as he travels briefly alongside them. His happiness for life and positive attitude impacts the couple in a paternalistic way. Chris also meets an elderly man named Ron while journeying to Alaska. This lonely man is affected by Chris's happiness and positive view of life when Chris states that "the core of man's spirit comes from new experiences". Chris motivates this gentleman to make life-altering decisions, and to understand that the world does not need to be a lonely place. Chris' adventurous personality leads him to Alaska, where his true colors of extroversion are shown. He rock climbs along mountains, and kayaks down the Grand Canyon in search of stimulating excitement in his life. His "great Alaskan adventure" allows Chris to act in a way that aids him in finding his true-self. A self that consists of an extrovert-like personality, and one that he was unable to express in his suburban life-style.
