Zambia


             The United States and other First World countries don't take the blame for Zambia's poverty. Zambia has had plans to increase the economy. So the U.N. and World Bank often help support Zambia with this. They have a plan to increase Zambia's GDP rate on an annual basis. Despite the plans for macroeconomic and other policies Zambia still grows in poverty each year. The people under the poverty line was at 73% in 1998. .
             Organizations are working in Zambia to help reduce the energy use. They have found that many lower class families try to use alternate energy supplies. This in turn takes much more time and human energy to make the energy. They have found that the people who spend much money on their energy will never reach out of poverty because they can't save when they"re energy costs are so high.
             The government wanted to set up a system of many structural reforms. This was to establish and enforce many policies. The Zambian government thought that this would lead to a reduction in poverty. Over this time there was a rise in the population. The country took another hit when metals were low on production. Along with the metal industry to the agriculture industry dropped. This is partly to blame with the unusual weather from El Nino. .
             Zambia has had an growth in the last few years. In 1999 because of the good weather the agriculture department received gains. The gains in this field has a reaction which added to gains in manufacturing and construction. .
             Some of Zambia's more recent ideas to reduce the poverty line in their country are to improve the countries external sector's viability and to reduce the inflation. They also want to reduce the damage that the HIV/AIDS virus brings to the country each year. The government wants to make people more aware of this disease. They believe that if they educate and reduce the poverty of the country that this will in turn reduce the new cases of HIV/AIDS each year.
