As a student, being pregnant would have a negative effect on my studies as I would focus more on taking care of my unborn child thus cutting on the time that I spend on my studies. Moreover, by using these pills, I have been able to avoid dangerous practices such as abortion. Abortion results from unplanned pregnancies when the mother or father is not ready to take responsibility of the child (Collins, 2010). Using this birth control technique has helped me avoid making such crucial decisions concerning a child's life. In addition, the abortion process is dangerous as it can lead to the death of the mother or even her infertility, whereby she will not be able to give birth later in life (May, 2010). By using the pill, I am able to keep away from these life threatening perils. The introduction of birth control pills has led to the development of other ways of family planning. Among these methods is the use of condoms by partners during sexual encounters (Tone, 2002). The health fraternity and scientists have introduced condoms for both men and women. I ensure that I use a condom whenever I have a sexual encounter with my husband as it keeps me safe from Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) and HIV/AIDS. The authorization of the birth pill in 1960 has also had a monumental impact on the society both in America and in the rest of the world.
