Life in Pakistan


A man when meeting a female Pakistani should never try to shake her hand unless she extends hers first. However, a foreigner female can shake hands with a male Pakistani. Maintaining constant eye contact with a person of the opposite sex is considered rude and unethical. Pakistani's are accepting of other cultures and do not mind if foreigners use gesturing while they talk. Pakistani's are loud and forceful in getting their point of view across and often interject while others are talking. They are diplomatic when expressing their views and find it rude to be direct in conversation. Pakistanis often interject while others are talking and it is considered normal if two people start a conversation during a group meeting. They are also very loud and forceful in getting their point of view across. It is however considered impolite and rude to be direct in their conversation. Pakistanis are quite diplomatic when expressing views about others.
             3. Pakistanis are very polite people who show their affection and love for others in public. They praise others in public and expect the same back. The only affection shown however is between men. The Pakistani society is predominantly male. Public displays of affection are not acceptable between man and wife. Pakistani couples maintain a distance between themselves in public situations. Women generally abstain from even saying their husbands name in conversations. Pakistani's generally do not display anger or negative emotions in public. If things are not going their way they resort to bitter sarcasm. Very rarely are there shouting matches or physical acts of violence. .
             4. The work environment in Pakistan is formal. Most people wear slacks or a suit. Some Pakistani's wear "Kamis-Shalwar" which is baggy pants and a long shirt. This is acceptable. Wearing exposing and tight clothing will lessen respect for a person and will generate unwanted rumors and comments.
