As usual, when I began this assignment, I quickly realized that I had underestimated the amount of thought that was needed for it to be completed to your satisfaction and my need. On the surface, I am examining my behaviour and aligning it with the things that I say that value. The problem is, that when I examine my behaviors, they are different depending on the setting that I am in, and I have noticed that sometimes those behaviors conflict with values that I express. For instance, I say that I highly value honesty and fairness, and I do, but in some of my personal relationships, I have been less than honest, especially about my expectations and needs. .
In some of my personal relationships, I espouse that I am highly independent and really have it together, I am strong, capable and will not be a dependent to anyone. My behaviour on the other hand would suggest that I am capable, but would rather not have to be strong and independent, I behave like I am looking for someone to save me from all of that, and through closer self-examination, and I most likely come across a very emotionally needy. I know that may a little too much information, but with what I am going through in my personal life, it would have been almost impossible not to express those thoughts in this personal essay. .
Now as an educational leader and in life in general, I value relationships, friendships and professional roles I work hard to be a good daughter, sister, wife, mother, friend, sorority member, church member, employee and co-worker. I take my role seriously, sometimes to a fault. This paper was so hard for me, because quite frankly, I am in a serious period of transition. My cancer and impending divorce have forced me to take a closer look at who I am, how I behave what I really value and what I value just because I am "supposed"" to. I don't really know what my values are.they are shifting, and shifting greatly.
