Long-Term Relationships

Now, I consciously make myself take a step back and evaluate the issue, and see how working together we can fix whatever the problems is; is it important enough to be upset about or is it just that we see things differently on that particular issue. I don't know how many times I have said to myself, "If I can do this better myself, then what do I need him for. And what I mean by that is working together, raising the kids, being the good example, or being the teacher, or the cook, or the maid, balancing the budget and still try to make time and have the energy to get up close and personal with my partner.
A long-term relationship takes a lot of patience, constant learning about your partner and the ability to forgive easily. I have learned and believe that life is too short to hold grudges, and that baggage can hinder our ability to focus on the important and happy times of our life. We should not start our day off angry or go to bed angry, and you should always strive to be happy every day. To keep my relationship with my partner and my children healthy, I try to communicate and heal issues rather than just forgiving and moving on. One-sided forgiveness can become a list of reasons that will eventually make me move on; this is why I really try at the communication and a healing approach.
Mornings can be chaos when men and women and teenage boys and girls share one bathroom in the morning! My children and I have lived alone for many years at a time. And, occasionally, we have taken in other children or family and friends when they needed a place to stay on a short-term basis. Each person has their own routine for how they address their morning, how they unwind from their day after work, how they clean (or don't clean) their home and how they spend their time off of work or school. In order to keep this family relationship happy and successful, we must learn each other's habits, work together to make new habits for the sake of the relationship and compromise for ways of life that we just don't want to change.
