Not just from the transition of email from letters, but our language, how business is conducted, how many nations infrastructures are managed and powered as well as today's modern military's train and fight. It can be said that a larger portion of the industrial world would be crippled and society placed at a standstill if the internet was managed to be shut down and access lost to the millions of users around the world for an extended period of time. Many nations rely on the importance of the internet at all levels and as it continues to expand so does the international community's need to not only utilize it for all of its needs but the concerns of security and control as the global expansion of the internet takes place before our eyes. .

The history of the internet is much older and more involved than most of today's society can fathom. There is a long historical line that actually begins with the inception of the computer in conjunction with the establishment of the digital protocol. To stay focused with the intent of this paper, it will jump ahead in time and look at the inception of major aspects of how computer sciences (specifically the internet) were expanded beyond the military and governmental control and eventually led to science, business and communications entities. This expansion of technology eventually lead to societies around the world having a medium that today provides almost instantaneous information of any kind at the touch of a key board. .

After the Russians launched the satellite Sputnik I, then President Eisenhower began the establishment of the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA). This was raised as a scientific improvement for the nation's defense. The early emphasis was on missile-defense systems and the detection of nuclear bomb tests.
