Drug Trafficking and Violence


Drug dealers of all religions were forced to move their products in a more secretive manner because the rules applied to everyone. The only recorded instance in history where a government had participated in mass transportation of illegal drugs was during the 19th century in which Great Britain had greatly popularized the use and trade of opium in China.(Opium War) Two different but unsuccessful opium wars were fought by the Chinese in rebellion to the British effort to monopolize opium in the country. With Chinese opium use and emigration increasing exponentially during the nineteenth century, the problem drug of opium spread to other countries like wildfire.(Opium War) As is the case for many drugs that had made themselves popular during today, an adjustment periods were taken by nations to discover the effects of the drug before illegalization was enacted. In the United States for example the government passed both a Harrison Act to allow the licensed sale of cocaine, opiates and a marijuana tax act simply only taxed the sale of marijuana during the early twentieth century before it criminalized the usage of both. In fact alcohol was one of the first drugs banned within the United States, it was banned during the 20's by the 18th amendment and was later repealed by the twenty first amendment. The infamous business of bootlegging or illegal production and distribution of liquor became rampant throughout the United States as a result of the prohibition of alcohol. .
             Drug lords are the term used to describe a person who controls a sizable network involved in the illegal drugs trade. The reason the drug lords become so powerful and rich and never get caught. Its because they are never involved with the illegal crimes. They have criminals working for them. Amado Carrillo Fuentes was the top drug trafficker in Mexico, Carrillo was transporting five times more cocaine to America than any other drug trafficker in the world, building a fortune of over $25 billion (Wikipedia).
