The Death of Ivan Ilyich

Ivan Ilyich is seen, as a judge who is only concerned was the process of the justice system.
             .
Ivan Ilyich had a accident while hanging up his drapes and got a bruise on his side. He was fixing his new beautiful home with things that made him look rich. He did this because he wanted to show off and be like those in higher social standings. .
When Ivan Ilyich went to see the doctor he viewed Ivan Ilych the same way he looked at people in court who appeared before him. "The celebrated doctor dealt with him in precisely the manner he dealt with men on trial. (Tolstoy 47) Ivan Ilyich compared himself with the doctor realizing that the doctor had the same attitude and expressions as him when a prisoner was on trial. In court Ivan would talk about the law and didn't consider why the prisoner did what they did. Ivan didn't care about the human emotion the prisoners felt he just would interpret the law and give his decision on what the law is. When Ivan Ilyich went to see the doctor he gave him general information about illness that it can be. Ivan Ilyich was not given an exact illness. It was confusing to Ivan on what the doctor was saying and not saying, but this is what he did to prisoners. When Ivan tried to get an answer on whether his illness was serious or not his question was ignored and was not considered by the doctor and he was given a look that he had given those before him in court. Ivan became annoyed at the doctor for "being so indifferent to a matter of such importance. (Tolstoy 65) It was important for Ivan Ilyich because it was his life. The doctor made Ivan Ilyich suffer by not telling him what he had just like he made prisoners "suffer and cringe by excercising the law in a professionally obscure manner which made them powerless. "(Tolstoy 24).
The doctor and Ivan Ilyich are both individuals who do their job correctly and show no compassion to other people or at least to the people they deal with.
