Societies have come to be increasingly superficial. A great deal of this has to do with the lack of common sense and cultivated way of thinking that most individuals conduct themselves with. Encouraged by the media and social networks this behavior will only worsen before getting better. So be that as it may it's not mine for the undertaking, my thoughts on what true love is or is not is though. .
The problem with trying to "find love", is that too often we don't look at people for who they are. Rather we look at physical appearance, popularity, or wealth. These are not qualities that were ever intended to be looked at in that respect.
Love is best seen as devotion and action, not an emotion. Love is not only based on how we feel. Sure our emotions are involved, but they cannot be our only criteria for love. When someone says "I Love You " then turns around and acts like they could care less to be with or around you, then love they do not have for you. When someone says that they just stopped loving their significant other it is not a feeling they lost, but an action they stopped taking part in. Love is by far an action and not just a feeling. Sure there are feelings that go along with it, but by and large love is an action.
You need a relationship where both partners are willing to give 100% no matter what. If you truly do love someone, then you should not be concerned with whether you are on the giving or receiving end. But you should be willing to give and then give some more. This is the only way that a relationship can truly work and be a loving relationship.
Also, love is forgiving and understanding of the fact that we are only human and do make mistakes. There are imperfections in a loving relationship, but the difference is that those imperfections are understood, accepted, and forgiven when they cause hurt.
