First World War - Accident of Design?

Many believe that the Alliance system of World war one was a major reason of why world war one surfaced. Diplomacy in the 1900's proved very difficult and in fact agreements were not always kept. When the allies were created they were on the side of defensive however as war became closer the switch to offensive only seemed natural. Military agreements were drawn up, which clearly identified enemies and strengthen tensions across Europe. In addition mobilization plans were drawn up developing and momentum towards war, which plans actually transformed into something very different from what their makers had intended. The Bismarck's Dual Alliance was intended to stabilize the European status-quo, however only got the ball rolling and therefore other powers in European felt threatened and began creating their own alliances. This factor was a design towards war, however not intentionally, plans and alliances were created in the idea that war was likely and that the European powers needed to protect themselves. This is a design towards war, not intentionally in the beginning however, once the countries felt threatened they moved from a defensive approach to an offensive one. .
             The major powers across Europe all had their individual plans and ideas that made going to war appealing. France was becoming more concerned with Germany's growing power, being a neighboring country and also France was having their own domestic issues with too many political groups and war was a good way to deflect their own issues. Alsace and Lorraine which was lost to Germany in 1871 was one of the major factors why France was preparing for war. Britain was a strong island with a powerful navy, however when challenged by Germany brought insecurities and as a result along with the Moroccan crisis helped to turn the British political opinion against Germany and led Britain to consider whether it ought to land an army on the continent to assist France in the event of war.
