The Community that Team DEAA chose to do our SWOT project on is the Village of Matteson IL. Matteson's geographically located 41 degree 30ft. 35 inch N 87 degree 44ft. 21 inches W. According to the United States Census Bureau, the Area is 7.2 square miles, of which 7.1 square miles consist of land: 0.1 square miles consist of water. Matteson borders Park Forest & Olympia Fields to the East,(Olympia Way), Flossmoor and Country Club Hills to the North(Volmer Road), Richton Park to the South (Old Plank Road) and Frankfort to the West(Harlem Ave.).
The median age of Matteson restate is 31 years old. There are 7,086 housing units in Mattson. 95% are occupied and 5% are vacant. Renters make up 13.60 % of that re estate. The median home value is 194,000. Most of the housing is constructed from a mixture of brink and siding. There is a section in Matteson that's called OLD Matteson, where most of the houses are made from Wood siding. The houses are nicely spaced, the neighbor hoods are clean. The houses mostly have central air and updated pluming. Most of the homes have fire places along with modern heating systems.
Matteson has just opened a brand new Community Center. They still utilize the old one for smaller classes. The Library is very modern and heavily utilized. There are several pharmacies in the Village and a number of physician's offices and Dentist.-From the 2010 Census, Matteson's population is 19,008. 76.0 % Black, 19.7 % White, 1.1 % Asian, 3.6 % Latino/Hispanic. Material status: 27.8 % never married, 55.3% married, 2.5% separated. 5.8% widowed, 8.7% divorced. Restaurants cater to all ethnic groups.
