Underage Drinking and it's Consequences

According to Doweiko, alcoholism was rampant among youth in England during the early 1800's (pg 283,2002). Looking at the differences between other countries one can see that adolescents have been under a scope for alcohol use over 50 years.
             .
The trends of adolescent alcohol use went up and down many times. By research it showed that there was an increase in the 70's with a decreased in the 80's ( Doweiko, 2002). According to the Center for Chronic Disease ( CDC), there was times that the current use of adolescent alcohol use remained steady from 1991 to 199. Additionally, during a 10 period there was a decrease in adolescent alcohol use from 50% in 1999 to 42% in 2009 (CDC,2010).
Demographics and Causes of Underage Drinking Statistics shows the differences between different race and ages of underage adolescent drinkers. According to a survey among underage adolescent drinkers that drank 30 days before the survey was conducted, it reported 19% of African Americans between age 12 and 20 drank alcohol compared to 32% of white. This evidence shows that there is a need for continued research among the different populations of care. According to Hopkins, the exposure to African American youth to alcohol advertising is said to be more than any other population of race. In 2004 statistics had shown that 34% of African American youth saw more alcohol advertising in magazines compared to other youth in general. It is evident that alcohol marketing has impacted not only adults, but also underage drinkers. According to the American Medical Association (AMA), when a study on 12 year-old's was measured it was found that youth who were more aware of beer advertising held more favorable views on drinking and expressed an intention to drink more often as adults that did youth who were less knowledgeable about the ads. Clearly, the influential power of alcohol advertising raises the use of underage drinking and cost of alcohol advertising, estimating to be roughly 4.
