Rutgers Trial Takes Turn After Witness Admits He Lied to Police

The Rutgers University hate crime trial took a drastic turn after one witness, Lokesh Ojha, admitted that he lied on the stand and revealed that the defendant, Dharun Ravi, intentionally set a webcam to spy on his gay roommate Tyler Clementi. When Clementi found out a few days later, he committed suicide by jumping off a bridge, prompting national media to use the case as an example of anti-gay bullying. Ravi now faces charges of invasion of privacy, bias intimidation, witness tampering, and hindering arrest (Koenigs).
During the cross-examination, Ojha admitted that Ravi told him about the webcam prior to the taping of Clementi's date with another man on September 21, 2010 and even encouraged him to watch. Ojha's testimony helped seal the prosecution's claims that Ravi's actions of secretly taping his roommate were intentional, although both Ravi and his friend, Molly Wei, claim that Ravi taped the scene because Clementi's date was older and he was worried that he would steal his iPad (Koenigs).
"He told me that it was happening again .
