However, according to Google, Motorola Mobility will remain a separate working entity whose operations will continue as normal.
"Motorola will remain a licensee of Android and Android will remain open. We will run Motorola as a separate business," claimed Page (Bradley).
"Many hardware partners have contributed to Android's success, and we look forward to continuing to work with all of them," he continued (Rusli).
However, industry analysts doubt the sincerity of this claim. "If you woke up today and you are one of Google's hardware partners, the hair just set up on the back of your neck," said Colin Gillis. "If you're an Android partner, you may start considering the Windows platform" (Rusli).
In fact, many Android partners, including Samsung, HTC, LG, and Best Buy, publicly announced their approval of Google's most recent acquisition. However, many experts are questioning the sincerity of these statements because they all sound alike. Some experts believe Google issued these statements to their partners to release. The Android partners do not really have a choice but to agree with the acquisition; they are so heavily invested in the Android system. There could be a silver lining for these partners, though. The Android device makers are currently battling one patent suit after another, and Google could join the fight and use its power to stir the waters (Bradley).
History suggests that Google won't keep Motorola Mobility on a level playing field as the Android partners. When Google worked with HTC to produce the Nexus One, it received the newest version of Android OS, which helped put it a step ahead of competitors on creating a smartphone that could successfully accommodate all the latest features. Likewise, many analysts have a hard time believing that Google will not take advantage of the fact that they will own their own smartphone and tablet development and manufacturing resources.
