People who produce less in the way of greenhouse gasses or who take steps to ameliorate the situation could be rewarded monetarily. For example, a number of landowners in Arkansas have received $126,000 for their trees. Trees can "sequester" a certain amount of carbon dioxide and take a step in the right direction. This program rewards individuals whose land makes such contributions. Planktos, a company with a mind to improve the situation, have taken steps to encourage growth of plankton so that the ocean will be better able to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. .
What Can You Do?.
This whole idea of carbon credits can extend to the personal level. It may seem that the actions of one person could not do much to worsen this problem, but the combined efforts of many individuals all over the world can tip the balance of this issue to healing or destruction. Daily choices make all the difference. There is even the idea of carbon trading on an individual level where individuals would have a certain amount of carbon credits. If they were to exceed that limit then they would have to pay for more credits. However, if all credits were not used then the individual would be compensated for the leftover credits.
