What is Managerial Communication? It all depends on who you ask. For the most part, all the definitions will relate. How can proper managerial communication help? These questions and others is the subject to be covered throughout this writing.
In my view, managerial communication is the effective approach towards your personnel with the most logical thought process behind it. This approach can vary from a congratulatory remark to dismissal. How a manager handles the situation will be based their communication skills. Proper communication can be the difference between a successful manager and a failure. According to Judi Brownell (2003), there are different approaches such as humanistic and social science as well as the effectiveness of your language. Furthermore, she goes on to state that a manager must take into consideration the language and diversity in working environment, not overlooking his/her behavior that is portrayed. John Owens states effective communication goes beyond words (2003). For instance, if the co-workers are fidgeting, lip biting or examining their fingernails when a manger throws out a big idea to change how the company tracks sales, chances are, they will run into some resistance.
Proper communication will enhance my skills in many ways. As Chambers (2003) says, "Difficult times demand increased communication." In my current profession as an instructor good communication skills are a must in order to relay important information to the students. Case in point managerial communication will greatly benefit my skills as presenter. Furthermore, in future job opportunities it can assist me to better communicate with others and succeed. .
To conclude, effective communication skills can aid not only a manager but a student pursuing a graduate degree. It is why I believe practicing managerial communication will separate one from the others, in a good way that is.
