Over the years the Ethereal Lan Group has been together we have been gathering together less and less for LAN parties. As many of you may know we have been having some trouble finding suitable locations to host our events. While there are many factors contributing to this complication, the main case is that the ELG sucks up so much electricity. In order to keep our group alive we need to cut back on our power consumption. .
During our sophomore year of high school we formed the Ethereal Lan Group. For many high school students it was a time to socialize with friends in the quad at lunch, attend boring required classes, and drive around aimlessly on a Friday night searching for the next party to hit up. Even if you didn't attend these parties you all still heard about them from your more "popular" friends at school. I remember how we used to exchange glances between each other when someone came up to our group of friends on a chilly Monday morning and started spattering out words about the kegger parties they went to over the weekend. We constantly heard about "who got drunk and who did what- or the brief relationships between classmates. Computers were the initial shared interest that brought us all together, but it extended beyond that. We all realized none of us really cared much for high school drama "the drinking, the immature pranks, the one night sexual encounters. It seemed as if we were the only people in high school that were actually having fun and enjoyed our youth. Eventually we formed a name for our group of "techies- so that we could put on Local Area Network (LAN) parties and invite others to join us for a 48-hour trip away from the normal high school life. This group would gather together with their personal computers, network them together, and play games. We called ourselves the Ethereal Lan Group.
Our last gathering of fifty members in March of 2003 was a huge success.
