What Every Girl Wants

In the Book What Every Girl (except me) Knows by Nora Raleigh Baskin, Gabby Weiss, who lives with her dad and brother has a hard life. Gabby's mother died when she was young, so Gabby doesn't know what to do about girl things. She wants her dad to marry someone so she can have a new mother. The only problem is, her brother thinks that they are fine, and don't need one. Throughout the book, Gabby has a few bumps in the road, but she gets through them. So she travels to the last place she remembers seeing her mother, searching for a memory. Gabby was only 5 when her mother died so she hardly remembers her. She remembers one thing, where her mother died. But there is a story behind that. Her mother overdosed on a medicine without realizing it. One day Gabby and her brother Ian, who were very young at the time didn't really understand it. All Gabby really remembers is riding in an elevator with Ian. She remembers that the pill was a sleeping pill and she thinks that her mother dyeing was her fault, but soon realizes it wasn't her fault.
Gabby's dad Larry has a girl friend named Cleo. Gabby's mom died when she was about 5 so Gabby couldn't experience all the girl stuff with her mom. She felt like she was missing something. She was so happy that Cleo became a part of her life. She felt like she could talk to her about everything. After a year of dating Cleo and Larry decide to get married. When the news breaks to Gabby she is so happy, but when the news breaks to her brother Ian he is so upset. Ian feels that no one could ever replace his mom. He made Cleo feel so upset that she decided to call the marriage off and move out. This made Gabby really upset, but after about two months, she got over it.
When Gabby had basically forgotten about Cleo, she and her brother took a little journey. They wanted to go to the apartment where their mother had died. When they got there it was weird. The lobby didn't look the same, neither did the building.
