I can't stand the fact that most of my friends get everything given to them by there parents. They don't have a job, but have a brand new car, a wallet full of money, a gas card, and pretty much anything they want. At first I somewhat was jealous but now I have come to realize that having everything given to you is really not the best thing for a kid. Unlike kids like these, I have worked hard since the age of fifteen to get what I have today. Paying for almost everything I own, has been preparing me for the future. .
Working hard for the last four years, I have been paid a good sum of money. It is hard to work hard for my money and not get to go out and waste it on whatever I want. Instead I get to give the money I make to my father to pay for my possessions. Monthly I pay for my truck payment, 200 dollars, my cell phone, 75 dollars, and pay of the money I have borrowed from my dad. Not only am I paying these monthly payments but also my gas, anything that goes wrong with my truck, and anywhere I go or anything I do. This may not seem to be a big deal to many adults, but as a teenager it is a good amount of responsibility. I know that if I don't come up with the money for these things they will be taken away from me. The responsibility that this has taught me is better then any other lesson can teach you. .
It would be nice if the day I turned 16 my parents took me to buy a brand new truck, but I"m sure I wouldn't appreciate it as much. When something is given to you and you don't have to spend your own money, it is much easier not to treat it with as much respect as taking the money out of your own wallet. Paying for my truck has made me respect it much more. I don't just treat it like shit, but I try hard to take good care of it because the way I look at it I have spent many unwanted hours at work to drive it everyday. Something as little as my cell phone is important to me because it's something easily taken for granted by most kids but to me it's more.
