Contents of the Dead Mans Pocket

In Jack Finney's short story "Contents of A Dead Mans Pocket" the idea is presented that people should value family more then anything. For example in the first scene Tom decides to stay home while his wife goes to the movies. Tom has habitually stayed home to focus on making more money. Tom's wife Clare even complains that Tom "Works to much," but all he can think of is the "Money rolling in." For instance the yellow piece of paper that Tom had all his research on for marketing had flew out the open window and landed on the ledge of the balcony. Once he realized what had happened to the piece of paper he was working on, not thinking of anything else but getting the paper back he then climbed out of the window onto the ledge. After he had gotten the piece of paper off the ledge he looked down onto the street and lost his grip of the window seal, slipped and almost fell. Subsequently he then thought to himself that all he wanted to do was to see is wife again. Then when he thought that things could not get any worse the window shut and he could not get it back open. After thinking for awhile on what to do he decided to try and break the window open with his shoulder, once he accomplished that he climbed in the window and went to go look for his wife. In this short story the idea is presented that people should value family more then anything. .
