Personality in relation to the workplace



             The personality scale also indicated that I have a high self-esteem, am low in Machiavellian and a low self-monitor. According to the scale, possessing high self-esteem implies that I have more of the capability to thrive at work. People possessing high self-esteem tend to take more risks in selecting employment and have a higher chance of selecting unconventional jobs. Machiavellian is the degree to which somebody is practical, keeps emotional distance and believes that one can justify means. People low in Machiavellian are not very manipulative, are persuaded fairly easily, and do not persuade others very often. Self-Monitoring refers to the amount to which a person alters their personality based on their external situation and surrounding environment. Low self-monitors tend not to be able to disguise themselves, they have the tendency to display their true personality and attitudes no matter the situation. This personality trait demonstrates a high relationship between who they are and what they do.
             I agree with the interpretation of the above results for the most part but don't feel I fit under the description of an individual with low Machiavellianism. I believe that I do have very high self-esteem and a low-self monitor. In the past I have accepted many employment opportunities as youth workers/leaders. In order to take on such positions of leadership I believe high self-esteem is necessary. I had to be able to carry myself well and be comfortable with who I am. I have always been one to thrive at my job as I take it to be very important. Low self-monitoring ties in with self-esteem. I am very comfortable with whom I am and therefore say and act what I am feeling. I believe that the tie between these two is quite large, without high self-esteem you could not be a low self-monitor. My disagreement with machiavellianism comes into play with the description mentioning that people with low machiavellianism tend to keep emotional distance, are not very manipulated and are persuaded rather easily.
