When seeking employment in the business field, most employers conduct a personality test. This provides the employer with a better understanding of the personality and work patterns of the potential employee. .
Upon completing the personality scale, I discovered more about my personality traits, and myself and how the combination affects my work ethics and habitual patterns. .
The results from my personality test indicated that I am a moderate internal locus of control, implying that I have a tendency to believe that I control my own destiny. Internals relate the outcomes to certain situations to their own actions. Internals tend to take better care of themselves health-wise, as they consider their health to be something which they have power. In the work environment internals have the propensity to have a lower absenteeism rates due to their health conscience attitudes. Also internals have a lower individual turnover rate because they are usually more successful on the job workplace. .
The personality scale did a relatively good job of describing my personality in respect to the locus of control category. I find myself believing that I have control over my surroundings and my well being. When situations are unpleasant I tend to take control by putting the situation back into working order. Last semester I had a professor whom most students felt did an inadequate job of teaching. English being his second language made for a communication barrier between himself and his students. Many of the students in the class developed bad attitudes, lacked motivation and blamed the teacher for their marks. I, on the other hand took the opposite approach to the situation. I felt as though I was the only one who could get myself the grade I wanted and deserved. The teacher had no effect on the mark I would obtain. I worked hard, studied many hours and ate properly to maintain good health and the hard work resulted in an A in the course.
