Cloning

276 of the different eggs and cell's were fused together, of those 276 eggs; only 29 survived and were implanted into 13 ewes. These ewes are to be the surrogate mothers. Of those 29 eggs, only 1 sheep embryo survived (Love 2001). .
The cloning of an adult sheep and possibility that human cloning could soon follow has raised some serious ethical questions according to Robert Wachbroit, the author of "Genetic Encores: The Ethics of Human Cloning". Wachbroit states, "One set of ethical concerns about humans clones involves the risks and uncertainties associated with the current state of cloning technology" (par. 7). Some people object on a purely ethical level while others favor cloning solely for the scientific advances it will produce. In the debate over cloning, there are those who say that the scientific benefits and advances gained from cloning are beneficial to society. On the other hand there are those who feel that cloning is morally wrong and would produce both scientific and social problems. Since ethics is not an exact science, whereas cloning is, ethics has the tendency to generate more controversies than answers. An article written in the Africa News Service states, "The ethical argument has been that the sanctity of the human person should remain inviolable and that cloning would be against the natural order of reproducing the human species (Cloning Must Beware of Ethics par. 4). Due to the fact that clones originate from a single fertilized egg should make that clone person natural. .
Perhaps the strongest ethical argument against cloning is that it could lead to a new, unfamiliar type of family relationship. Wachbroit states, "Cloning thus results in .
ambiguities. Is the clone an offspring or a sibling? Does the clone have one biological parent or two" (par. 18)? We have no idea what it would be like to grow up as the child of a parent who seems to know you from inside.
