Desnise L

Denise L wants to start working but her family doesn't want her to work. Her father "believes that a daughter's place is in the family, and that she should help her mother with the cooking and the housekeeping". I believe that she should be able to work because she can gain some valuable insight into what working is all about. There are good and bad things about working, especially if you are a full time student. It can really impact your grades but the financial part is really rewarding.
When teenagers have money they have a tendency to buy things they otherwise would not have bought. Either because they didn't have that kind of money or their parents didn't want them to have it. One good thing about teens having money is that they are financially independent from their parents. On the other hand they can use that money for things that their parents probably wouldn't want them to spend it on like drugs, or cigarettes. They parents can't know what their kids are spending their money on; it could be good things it could be bad. Even if the parents find out that their kids are spending money on wrong things, they can't stop their allowance to make them stop. The kids are financially independent; they work for the money they get. That is the point where parents may feel that their kids shouldn't be working because of the things that they are spending their money on.
Teenagers should be allowed to work because they can gain good experience but the work should be minimal. When teens start to work they are putting more responsibility on their shoulders. They experience what it takes to keep a job like for example arriving on time, doing what is expected of them, etc. The work can make them feel like an adult. They can also learn to be responsible. Sometimes the type of work isn't the best that is offered to teens yet it gives them a heads on the jobs that they could be doing if they don't do well in school.
