Many stories have been written in order to explain the creation of the world and human beings. While none of these have been scientifically proven, a majority of these stories have quite different views of how life was created. Two of these stories are Metamorphosis by Ovid, which considers an initial chaos, which evolves, and Genesis from the King James Bible, which takes an alternate point of view, in that God created everything from nothing in a six-day period. While these two stories are very different, they have many similarities as well.
In the beginning of Metamorphosis, all was chaos when God decided to create and settle all argument. After most life was created God decided that a finer being was needed, so God created man. After man's creation was the Golden Age. This age was perfect in every way no justice or weaponry was needed. All was good. Then came the Silver Age this was less perfect than the Golden Age but not terrible. Instead of only spring: winter, summer, and fall were added. Next came the Age of Bronze this time period became even worse, attitudes became aggressive and quick to come to arms. Yet this age was not entirely evil. Lastly came the Iron Age, which may be considered the age we live in today. All evil had been let loose disposing of righteousness, modesty, and truth. This age has put man against man causing terrible things to occur. Ovid's tale tells us that we did not start out terrible people, but that evolution has caused us to.
become the way that we are. .
Genesis on the other hand was based on God's making of everything including water, air, land and animals from absolutely nothing. This God wanted to create a being in its own image so he created man. The man was given the responsibility of naming all the animals and plants. During this time, the God saw that the man was lonely so he created the man a companion from the man's rib. He placed him and his companion, a woman, in a garden and told them not to eat from one specific tree.
