One of the most controversial topics is smoking. I personally am against smoking and smoking. There are many things that can happen when you smoke, for example, diseases in smokers themselves for one thing and especially non-smokers not to mention its annoying when you have to breathe in smoke by someone who just has to have a smoke and doesn't consider that it might irritate the people around them. .
Tobacco smoke is killing thousands of people every year. Each cigarette causes 5 to 20 minutes of life to a smoker. It is also classified as a carcinogen. Ten other pollutants only share this classification. These pollutants include benzene, asbestos and smoke inhaled directly from cigarettes. The risk of developing lung cancer due to tobacco smoke is 1 in 1,000 for nonsmokers and 2 in 1,000 for nonsmoking spouses of smokers. The risk for smokers is 70 in every 1,000. Passive smoking causes between 150,000 and 300,000 cases of bronchitis, pneumonia and similar infections in children less than 18 months old and worsens the condition of between 200,000 and 1 million asthmatic children. Second hand smoke is a human carcinogen that kills about 45,000 Canadians because of lung cancer annually. Cigarette smoke is responsible for 150,000 to 300,000 cases of bronchitis and pneumonia and other lower respiratory infections in children up to 18 months of age. Tobacco smoke is also known to cause the build-up of fluid in the middle ear causing various infections. .
I don't see why people would want to start in the first place because the immediate effects of smoking are so disturbing for example abnormally high heartbeats and thickening of blood. Also vomiting and decrease in skin temperature. There are of course long term effects as well such as dryness and wrinkling of the skin, blockage of blood vessels and heart disease. There are a lot more effects to immediate and long-term smoking and I mean a lot.
