A Midsummer Night's Dream Character Analysis

He is a witty and troublemaking sprite who helps the play progress by using his magic. His spirit and humor sets the atmosphere for the play. There are many contrasting characters in the play, and Puck can illustrate these contrasts by himself: he illustrates, grace, humor, coarseness, and kind- hearted. Also, he seems to be described as odd- looking.
Puck is also known as Robin Goodfellow. He seems to be a dangerous sprite, however, he is not completely malevolent. He never does permanent damage and thinks of people as fools. He aims for humor and laughter.
Puck apparently has magical fairy power. He meddles in the love affairs pertaining to Hermia, Lysander, Helena and Demetrious. He also conveys that he enjoys taking the form of animals. Though he performs magic, he does it at the request of Oberon, whom he regards with respect and fear.
Another task Puck has is to communicate with the audience. For example, he steps out of the play to suggest that it was all merely a dream, which is accompanied by a wink.
Though Puck's humor may be subtle, Nick Bottom's humor is prominent. Bottom believes that he is perfect for every part of the "Pyramus and Thisbee" play, though he is a horrendous actor, making numerous mistakes in his speech. He takes himself very seriously and believes that others do the same, making overly dramatic speeches and showing off. He has a lot of energy and his fellow workers adore him. Puck, being the humorous sprite that he is, transforms Bottom's head into an asses head. When Titania falls in love with Nick Bottom (also due to Puck's magic) he is so full of himself that he thinks nothing out of the ordinary of it.
Though Puck and Nick Bottom may be personable characters, the main events revolve around the four young lovers. Helena is head over heels in love with Demetrious, though he has feelings for Hermia. She plans to win back Demetrious's heart by telling him of Hermia and Lysander and their plan for escaping into the forest and eloping.
