Henry Ford

Considered amongst the greatest industrial pioneers this nation has ever seen, Henry Ford changed the way America looked at automobiles and factory work over 100 years ago. His ways of work and business would better the American economy for decades to come. .
Henry Ford was born on July 30, 1863 in what is now Dearborn, Michigan. As the first son of William and Mary Ford, Henry showed different interests as most kids his age throughout his childhood. Mechanical things, rather than the traditional farm work, were more than intriguing to Ford. At 16, he moved to Detroit as an apprentice for a mechanic. At 19 he moved back home, and wasted away his days playing with broken steam engines and operating tractors. After marrying Clara Bryant in 1888, Ford run a sawmill as a source for steady income. Two years later, he found a job with the Edison Illuminating Company in Detroit. His interest in internal combustion engines became so outstanding; he was promoted to Chief Engineer. This gave him enough money and time to devote most of his attention to experiment with these engines. In 1896 he successfully built a self-propelled, four-wheel, dual axel, "Quadricycle.".
With many great automotive ideas, Ford dreamt of a company to mass-produce affordable, reliable, and efficient vehicles. With this vision, Ford helped to establish the Ford Motor Company in 1903. He was the Vice-President as well as Chief Engineer of a small Detroit company that produced only a few cars daily, where he had factory workers assemble parts made by other companies. His dream became a complete reality in 1908 with the introduction of the user-friendly and easily maintained Model T. In ten years the Model T had taken over 50% of the nations automobile market, and was creating a higher and higher demand every day. Soon Ford developed the assembly line, a factory concept that would change the nation forever. Using basically all self-produced parts, Ford used conveyor belt to move parts from station to station, making production that much quicker and easier than before.
