Education

The art of teaching and the skill of learning go way beyond the boundaries of school walls and getting an A. The quote "Education is more then skills and knowledge; teaching is more then lecturing; learning is more than taking notes and doing assignments" means that learning is so much more then doing school work, listening to a teacher and getting good grades. Everyday of our lives we learn from and teach our peers. Knowledge is all around us waiting to be captured but sometimes we only see the small source of this great power. The essay's "I am a cripple" by Nancy Mairs, "University Days" by James Thurber and "Clamorous to learn" by Edora Welty all support this quote with their stories. .
Learning from our peers goes back to a very early stage in our lives. The people who have been around us since this early stage have helped shape the person we are today. In Nancy Mairs" "I am a cripple", she talks about her life with multiple sclerosis. Nancy defies everything politically correct and blatantly states that she is a cripple and she doesn't want people to pretend she's not. She takes her life and turns it into a comical story though it still has didactic effect. As a professor she has a major impact on her students. When Nancy said "One immensely cheered by the information that I paint my own fingernails; she decided that If I could go to such trouble over fine details, she could keep on writing essays", she was showing her effect on the students. Not only did Nancy teach her students in the classroom but also taught them just by being herself. They learned that if she can go through all these difficulties and do things just like everyone else then they can to do things that might be hard. Nancy also admits "I"d take a cure; I just don't need one" and shows that she's human and would want to rid of the disease but can deal with it as well. She reveals the honest truth when she says "I may at any time get worse, but no amount of worry or anticipation can prepare me for a new loss.
