Cosmetology.
Cosmetology is a career I am really interested in. From research on the Internet and some books, I found the information I needed to know before making any serious decision about becoming a cosmetologist. Typed below is some of the most important information I found about this career.
Career Specialists/Advancement.
There are many different specialists for cosmetology. Advancement is usually in the form of higher earnings, that result as a Cosmetologist gains experience or becomes a skilled specialist in one or more phases of the work, such as hair styling, straightening, or coloring. Cosmetologists' jobs vary depending on the size and type of salon they work in, managerial positions may be available in large beauty shops. More commonly, operators advance by opening their own shops. Occasionally Cosmetologists become teachers in beauty colleges, sales representatives for cosmetics firms, beauty editors for newspapers or magazines, or examiners for State cosmetology boards. To a large degree, advancement is based not only on ability, but also on the Cosmetologist's willingness to continue training to keep up with changing hairstyles and beauty techniques.
Cosmetologists and barbers, also called hairdressers and hairstylists, help people look neat, well groomed, and attractive. They cut, trim, shave, shampoo, and style hair. Also they fit hairpieces, offer scalp treatments and facial massages. In many States, barbers are licensed to color, bleach, or highlight hair and offer permanent wave services. A growing number of barbers are trained to provide skin care and nail treatment. Hairdressers, hairstylists, and cosmetologists provide beauty services, such as shampooing, cutting, coloring, and styling hair. They may advise clients on how to care for their hair, straighten or permanent wave hair, or lighten or darken hair color. Additionally, cosmetologists may train to give manicures, pedicures, and scalp and facial treatment; provide makeup analysis; and clean and style wigs and hairpieces.
