Lately after two or three generations of the first immigrants, the Chinese immigrants and the American born Chinese people have begun to form relationships because of a similar background. It is evident that the social lifestyle of the ABC's and the immigrants are totally different. .
The language that second generation American-born Chinese people speak differs from the traditional Chinese language. As an Asian-American, it seems that ABC's have developed their own language. One may think since they live in America they speak English, but they have also created a fusion of the English and Chinese languages known as "Chinglish". The reason for this merging of languages lies in the fact that these American-born Chinese talk to everyone but family in English. The lack of everyday practice lowers their Chinese-speaking skills. Therefore, the American-born Chinese people know how to carry out a conversation, but sometimes using English words in the sentence because it is either easier to say or they do not know how to say it in Chinese. On the other hand, Chinese immigrants only know Chinese. Often times, their strong accent hinders them from speaking articulately, therefore forcing them to make friends with other people who are in the same situation. Even though the background for each group is originally from the same place, the situations of each group of Chinese people differ because of how they are brought up. Currently, more and more immigrants have been coercing with the American-born people and both of them speak "Chinglish" as well, this goes back to the fact that it is easier to say some things in English than it is to say in Chinese. This is why the ABC's have developed their own way of speaking Chinese, which includes a part of English in it, rather than speaking it all in Mandarin. .
The culture of Chinese people originates from China, but the American-born Chinese has mixed with other cultures as well.
