In my childhood, my family was always up to date with new technology. These I feel is were my greatest time-waster started. With the invention and fast growing number of computers, time began to dissipate. During my Junior High School years, I remember AOL Instant Messengers coming out. All my friends were on it, and so was I. Now, as I have grown, and have to check my college e-mail, I tend to "wonder who is on." Even while writing this letter, I am on waiting for different people to come on. Time is something you can't have back, and should not be used to simply watch a computer screen for hours upon end. I was and still am foolish in regards to computers. If I use them for work, studying, keeping files, keeping my schedules up to date then that would be a good investment. Instead of talking to my friends, I could be helping someone study, or volunteering in the community. AOL IM is great for talking with family that a phone call would cost an immense amount, but this tool ends up being a time-waster for those who could be doing something better. During my years in life, I hope to overcome this bad habit and give more time to studying and school work rather then sitting around watching a computer screen. Maybe a few minutes of the day could be spent catching up with friends at other schools on IM, but not just to sit there and have a discussion that has no meaning. I wouldn't be surprised to see many people in the class with this same time-waster. America, including myself, needs to put more effort into helping one another rather then waste our time doing pointless tasks. .
