The poem "Naked Girl and Mirror" explores deep into the links between physical and mental changes as the girl matures. As she grows and changes physically, her attitudes and actions must also change as well. Her physical change ties in with the increasing complexity of the beginning of her adult life. These changes within her evoke a sense of self-consciousness. The internal monologue used in the poem voices both the inner child and the matured young lady's thoughts and perspectives. This technique is used to contrast the points of views between inner child and the emerging woman. She feels like a stranger to herself with a notion of betrayal evident throughout the poem, she suffers loss of identity when her sexual maturity brings her desire for unity with a man. She puts a mask upon herself, as she is ashamed and uncertain of the changes that have come onto her. Her inner child and her matured self cannot be reconciled because in the process of becoming a woman she must give up her sense of self being and can no longer indulge in the freedoms she once enjoyed as a child, without the worries of social identity. .
"Woman to Man" explores the sexual and emotional connection between a couple that have just conceived a baby. The poem dramatizes the woman's attitudes during the pregnancy.
