Islam

" Islam: There's no God but God", the name of this film carries a very strong message. It instantly denounces anyone who thinks there are many gods or anyone who sees a person or an object as significant as God. This film explores the Islamic experience in Cairo and a village of Egypt. It portrays the life of the Muslim community and how their lives revolve around God and the five pillars of Islam.
In the Islamic faith there's no God but Allah and whoever believes and says this is a true Muslim. In the Islamic tradition there are five pillars that set the framework of Muslim life. One of the pillars is the Shahaadah, which is a Muslim's declaration that "there's no God but Allah, and Mohamed is his prophet." This explains the title of the film, for it is a phrase that states the religion's fundamental belief in one God. Allah constitutes the very foundation of Islam; there's no duty except Allah. He is similar to nothing and nothing is comparable to him. In this religion God cannot be put in place of wealth, power and the like.
The second pillar of Islam, prayer, is widely portrayed in the film. It is seen as the central practice that shapes the daily routine and consciousness of a Muslim. They pray five times a day facing Mecca. These prayers prevent people from becoming overly focused in worldly objects. They are also a reminder of Allah. Muslims worship God in a building called the mosque. In the film, a mosque in Cairo called Eden Tullum, which was built a hundred years ago, is shown. Coming from a Christian family, seeing this mosque for the first time was very shocking because of the difference. Unlike the Catholic Church, the mosque has no images. There are no pictures just writing. Each mosque has a wall facing Mecca, and a Mihrab, which is a pointer to Mecca. Facing this wall, men pray in a straight line. Before going to a mosque, the believers must wash themselves in the fountain and cover their shoes.
