There were many more unsafe designs like these and the public had no idea about these killers. The seat belt was not introduced until 1956, when the first safety car, the 56's Ford, was on the road. This car included two-point seatbelts, sun visors, safety door latches. In 1959, the three point seat belt was invented. However, it took several years to be accepted by the public. They claimed it to be uncomfortable and inconvenient. In Britain, the seat belt has finally been compulsory in 1983. In America, the situation was worse; only 1 in 20 drivers wore a seatbelt. The government thought of an alternative for the seal belt, the air bag. In 1973, the General Motor became the first company to install airbag. However it was banned 12 months after because of lack of demand from the customers. In 1984, air bag was stipulated by the government. At that time, most of the European wore seat belt while only two-third of the American did. The American had to rely on the air bag. However, the air bag was not perfect. Up to 1990, air bag killed 60 people, mostly children because they had sat on the side of the seat when the accident happened. Therefore, seat belt would still be essential. .
Psychology of the driver.
25 millions people die on the road in the world and 96% of these accidents are fault of the driver. Obviously, driving is the most dangerous activity in everyday life. However, usually, drivers do not aware that they could die any moment. They think that they would never have a crash. If there is an accident, they say that only low-skilled driver makes that kind of fault. That will never happen to them. They go on with their life, continue to over speed, to drive without wearing seatbelt. Most of drivers do not learn from other people's accidents. They often tend to forget how dangerous driving is.
Many drivers also think that if they are high skilled, they are safe from car crashes. They believe that they have the ability to know what is going on, to control the situation; the skill to get out of trouble; accidents cannot happen to them.
