A workplace environment is full of diversity, diversity in ethics, morals, race and personality. Diversity is good in the sense that it promotes competition and growth within an organization and between companies. It is bad in the fact that it causes contention, violence and disputes between individuals and groups. Diversity can be as simple as a personal opinion that is directly related to a personality and provokes a negative attitude. Diversity between two individuals sparked a workplace dispute that was escalated to management for resolution.
Dave is an individual who was over-paid and worthless in the eyes of his fellow employees. Dave's job was not defined very well, other than he gathered the mail and distributed it to its recipients, socialized, walked to the bank to retrieve and refill the office secretary's candy jar with the bank's goodies. Dave was well educated in his engineering field. However, he did not apply himself on the job and this frustrated his co-workers.
John is an individual who was respected by his fellow co-workers. He was knowledgeable in his field, was extremely personable, and worked hard daily to be a key team player. John was everyone's friend and tried hard to get along with people like Dave.
Dave was always telling people what to do, when to do it, and how to do it. John despised him because of this. However, John was always courteous to Dave whenever Dave asked him to do something for him. One day Dave had informed John about an upcoming management inspection that was to happen in a month or so. Dave tasked John with specifics to help the office appearance for the inspection. John assured Dave that he would complete the tasks prior to the deadline and was happy to help. Dave obviously has to complete his enormous task on time and John has agreed to complete his part of this task for Dave. Both still have their day-to-day responsibilities to complete.
