Relating Out of War (the book) to my own experience

Alberto promotes peace throughout his personal essay. He focuses a great deal on his involvement in the peace movement by sharing with others his interest in working with the Colombian Red Cross. In addition, he shares with others what he is accomplishing with his peace project, which is a project that mostly requires him sharing his knowledge about nation-wide problems in school seminars.
I relate to Alberto because, like him, I have dedicated my time to be part of volunteer projects and to be involved with the Red Cross. For the past couple of years I have worked in a non-profit thrift store, which raises money for a local Christian church. The church is then able to donate the money to organizations in need. While I am not promoting peace directly, as Alberto is when he gives lectures at school seminars, I do play a part in helping to achieve peace. Only recently, have I become involved with the American Red Cross. I am a Red Cross instructor for first aid, CPR, and in addition I teach life-saving skills. I had to go through training in order to obtain this position and don't take what I do lightly. I have to make sure that I train others correctly for a situation that could become life threatening. What I am involved with in the Red Cross is, indeed, a little different than Alberto, but I feel that I can relate to him because we are both promoting peace. .
I feel that my position in society is a little like Alberto's. I believe that we both feel that we should give something back to society. In both of our cases, I think that something is how we try to promote peace. We volunteer our time, not for ourselves, but for our society.
