Your Board of Trustees and I have created a vision statement for the church. You will find it printed in your October newsletter. It reads like this:.
Our vision for Unity Church of Castro Valley is to reach out to our community in a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect through the Christ principles of acceptance, faith, kindness, and love. The focus will be to serve and nurture all souls who are seeking the Truth.
We will be expanding our leadership by providing opportunities to have a richer prayer life through classes, programs, and the music ministry.
We will encourage all individuals to "Follow the Yellow Brick Road" to find their own courage, intelligence, and to heal their hearts and lives.
We will provide a sanctuary of light where we will give a safe haven to those in need as we develop and grow our church family.
I will be speaking this month about what all of that means - starting this week with what the "Yellow Brick Road" is all about. .
THE WIZARD OF OZ.
The Wizard of Oz is one of the best metaphysical movies ever made. We are not "off to see the Wizard;" we are really off to see the God within.
You all know the story about Dorothy and her little dog Toto being carried off from black-and-white Kansas and deposited amidst the Munchkins in the merry ol" Technicolor land of Oz. Glinda, the Good Witch of the North tells the already homesick Dorothy that she can ask the wonderful Wizard of Oz for help. Along the way, she is befriended by the Scarecrow, who wants to ask the Wizard for brains; the Tin Woodman, who thinks he needs a heart; and the Cowardly Lion, who seems to be short on courage. And, of course, there's that pesky mean, green Wicked Witch of the West, upset because Dorothy's house landed on her sister and killed her, and because Dorothy is apparently encroaching on her power base. (Have you ever had a boss like that?).
Okay - Trivia Question 1: What were the names of Dorothy's aunt and uncle? .
